The distressing news of the demise of the Duke of Edinburgh came out last Friday, on April 9th, which left the entire nation in great grief. As the funeral procession of the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip was scheduled on April 17th, it took place in Saint George’s chapel as per schedule.
The funeral marked the presence of just 30 people due to the bad conditions of the current global pandemic in the United Kingdom.
The Queen of England, Elizabeth, the four children of the Queen and the late Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Charles of Wales, Anne, Princess Royal, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex marked their presence. Beside them, were the grandchildren of the late Duke, including Prince William’s and his wife, Catherine, Princess Beatrice and her husband Edo Mapelli Mozzi, Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, Lady Louis Windsor, James Viscount Severn, Peter Phillips, and Zara Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall. The Duke of Edinburgh’s daughters-in-law, Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, and the Countess of Wessex, Sophie, were also present at the funeral. His son-in-law, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence also marked his presence. The most anticipated presence was of the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry who had stepped down from his Royal duties and moved to Los Angeles with his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, and their 23 months old son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Meghan Markle, who is about to give birth to their second child and first daughter could not fly to the United Kingdom, as per the doctor’s advice. Aside, from these close relatives of Prince Philip, some close relatives were also present at his last rites.
Prince Phillip, who was a prince of Greece and Denmark had fallen in love with the then Princess of England, Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor, and got married in 1947. Together, they had spent 73 years of matrimony and had 4 children together.
On Saturday, the late Duke of Edinburgh was laid to his final rest in the presence of all the members of the Royal Family. The funeral was live broadcasted which was followed by millions around the globe.
A heart-touching moment was witnessed by the world, as the Queen of England was sitting alone, unlike every occasion. Some Royal insiders had reported on Saturday that the Queen had kept a photograph of the couple, Prince Philip’s handkerchief, and a statement accessory in her bag during the funeral.
Another thing that had moved the world was the bond between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge with the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry. After the explosive outburst of Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan, many had speculated that the relations between Prince William and his wife, Catherine were disturbed with Prince Harry. However, during the funeral, their conversation reminisced of older times and Royal engagements that these three spent together.
The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip was born on June 10, 1921, as the Prince of Greece and Denmark. He was going to turn 100 years old on June 10, 2021, but passed away on April 9, 2021, leaving behind a legacy that shall live forever.
